Description

The „Zahme Gera“ bridge takes the A 71 motorway across the 65 m deep valley of the Zahme Gera river.

The Y-shaped piers were constructed using climbing scaffolding. In order to be able to construct the diagonal pier parts a special type of self-climbing, self-supporting scaffolding was developed.
The bridge deck consists of two longitudinal, partially pre-stressed box sections. The structural height of the bridge deck varies between 3.80 m at mid-distance between the piers and 6.70 m above the Y-piers. (The longitudinal pre-stressing was achieved with internal and external pre- tensioned cables.) The realisation of the bridge deck was achieved using a cantilevered construction method, respectively starting from the piers at axis 20, 30 and 40. The construction progressed at intervals with a maximum of 5.0 m. The calculations required a detailed consideration of all building phases.
